Cumhur Gokova
The first to cross the Sahara.
The first person to go to the North Pole (Spitsbergen)
The first Turk to complete a two-time round-the-world trip.
Between 1970 and 1976, he completed his first circumnavigation of the globe, crossing the Atlantic Ocean at the age of 20. He holds the title of the second Turk to complete a circumnavigation of the world by sailboat (the first being Sadun Boro). Due to having trained numerous sailing instructors, he is known as the "Teacher of Teachers" in Turkish sailing.
He founded the first women's sailing team in Türkiye, brought Türkiye a world runner-up title in the ARC 2005 sailing competition, and was awarded by the Turkish Olympic Committee. Between 2010 and 2013, he completed his second circumnavigation of the globe with his wife Mayisa, a journey that lasted 18 months.
